[Reviews] [Xiaomi Review Contest]REDMI 1S in-depth review (Comparison with Redmi)

This is an user review, not a presentation of phone,  with comments regarding specs and futures.

Previously I played for 2-3 weeks with his young brother: Redmi 1.
I'm not a fan of Qualcom, but I kind of liked the MTK: Low power consumption, even with a 4.7 screen and quad @1.5 Mhz. Except... the threat of loosing Imei during flash procedures.
But I was covered with Imei bacup, knowing that it's a common problem.
Imei lost HAPPEN'S to Samsung or HTC.. also, but they didn't say that you should backup.  - more money to service departments.
So.. as soon as I use the Redmi, i was convinced that MI2S will be a huge step forward. Sold my Redmi 1 WCDMA and order an Mi2S.

Life often provide us with surprises and when I wanted to pay, some urgent matters required me to divert some money to other priorities.
And I looked uppon Redmi 1S wich seems to me to be an upgrade... given all the specs. And I bought it from Iboygou.com because of the guaranty they offer in Europe (Bulgaria) and because of MEP100 headphones they offer as gift.

Redmi 1s.

BatteryLi-Po 2000 mAh battery

Dimmensions, quality of materials:
As L x l x h is the same with his little brother.
(One of the key factors in aquisition was that, I already ordered an  blue battery cover for my Redmi 1. And I had the protection cover, transparent one, also on the way.
So, making transition from Redmi 1 to Redmi 1s, will allow you to keep all the accesories, protections, car holders, etc...
It is plastic, BUT unlike his older brother, it will not squick, move, feel loosy. It's there and give the senzation of tight fit.
No gaps onto the sides, the buttons are plastic, but feels like metal. Easy to touch, responsive.

Speeker, headhones, loudspeeker:
Here it seems that the values for volume, was modified, so the phone will sound like any other big brand. Loud, clear, without any tweaks from user side.
Once headphones inserted, the sound is clear, powerfull and no one will complain at this department.
Loudspeaker volume was raised, a little bit, and now, if you hide the phone and put some music, your friends will not make a diffrence between Redmi 1s and Samsung or HTC.
All in one... it's normal, and it's loud.
I put the phone on speeker while it was in the phone holder, in the car, and the conversation was loudy and clear. On the other side, my voice was clear, inteligible, but it was clearly that I was on handsfree mode. Nothing to complain, here also.

Screen:
As in Redmi 1 is sharp, cristal clear and verry responsive. I can browse my music using a light touch with my tip of the finger. This is a sensation I never had in Samsung, Sony and HTC. But it's kind of advance since his older brother.
Redmi 1s has slightly less contrast, much lower minimum brightness and auto brigthness is instantaneous.
Camera:
In this department, I see a lot of improvents. Because of qualcom proceesor, my guess is that drivers changed a little. I2C language and comunication in qualcom is much more advanced as in MTK. So the drivers are much, much better. Only my guess, because Xiomi said they didn't change the camera module, and it's same as Redmi 1.
But the pictures, seems more clear, with a lot of details. The algoritm is changed, because now, I didn't notice too much noise on the low light pictures. It's seems that senzors received a better light during night photos.
Also, I notice that during pitch black tentative of photos, the camera open the ledfor a moment to help auto-focus onto the subject, and then, with a much bigger intensity, flashes leds durring shots.
Front camera, I was realy immpresed. The lock on the faces, the quality of the shots. Clear, crisp, ballanced colours. Even it's just an 1.6 mpx, you can make beautiful selfies.

Battery:
Same battery as the old Redmi 1.
I cannot tell how long it will last for you. But on my use, it can last 2 days without any worries from my part.
If you are a heavy gammer, it will last you for maximum 8h. Top!
If you are like me, reading emails received durring day, speaking with family and friends ~30-50 min, playing a little durring travel with subway, or when you wait someoane, takind 10-20 pictures... it will last you!
Watching moovies or clips, will not guaranty 24h life, but it will last till the next stop to a charger.
Using QQ and email, and primordial as phone, play some time with the sistem, checking weather, after a week of use - battery not fully settled, I reached 2 days.
This one is from friday:                                                                This one si from sunday (today):

Graphic processor:Seems to be a little faster and better than Redmi 1. Also i understand that you can play big boys games... asphalt 8, NFS, etc ...at full fps without lag.
To be confirmed by users who actualy play demanding procesor games.
On Deer Hunter 2014, on Redmi 1 i had some glitches.. when in game and some thunder flashes thru the sky, half of the screen flashes with it.
In Redmi 1S i don't have this.

Antutu score: 20342 -
and some comparison with Redmi 1 and other "Well Known" brands

The Htc One mini is my wife's.

GPS
It locks pretty quick. Now we have advantage of Russian gps network GLONAS.
Works as it should be.
It will take ~5 min on a cold fix, with Google maps.
It will take ~30 sec to get a fix with Igo.

For the one's who rushed to buy it, it is a slight drawback: we don't have (yet) the posibility of flashing custom rom's. Recovery is MIUI recovery 2.0.1 and you cannot do with it as much as you do with TWRP or CWM.
But this will be fixed in a matter or weeks.

We have root, thank's to the work of our coleague: Androidfuchs.

Later Edit.

I was able to use a chineze language CWM for Redmi 1s. So.. hope is there, for custom rom lovers.
